Biography

Female scenarist, with Metro (later MGM) from 1918. Mathis had a significant hand in building the reputation of Rudolph Valentino, via such vehicles as "The Four Horseman of the Apocalypse" (1921) and "Blood and Sand" (1922). She also helped launch Nazimova to stardom in the late teens and was assigned by Irving Thalberg the task of re-editing Erich von Stroheim's "Greed" (1922) down from nine hours to one hour and 50 minutes.
